About Nicholas Baker, JD, MBA

I am an Attorney and Business Strategist with a track record of operationalizing AI governance for Fortune 500 enterprises. My work exists at the intersection of technical architecture and legal oversight, where I bridge the gap between ambitious AI innovation and enterprise-grade risk management.

Currently, I serve as Head of Customer Solutions at Openlayer, an AI governance and monitoring platform, where I work directly with enterprise clients who need to deploy AI governance frameworks that align with large-scale AI deployments with state, federal, and international regulations. My background also includes enterprise AI governance work at Credo AI with deep AI analysis at Sisense, and Yellowfin.

The Professional Intersection

I believe that for AI to be truly transformative, it must be durable. This requires a specialized lens that combines:

  • Legal Depth: As a member of the Minnesota State Bar, I provide formal legal credentials to support comprehensive oversight in areas like Intellectual Property, Data Privacy (GDPR/CCPA), and AI Governance (NIST/EU AI Act).
  • Technical Fluency: I am well-versed in the technical architecture of AI workflows, with hands-on experience in AI lifecycle management, metadata governance, and algorithmic bias mitigation.
  • Business Strategy: With an MBA and years of experience managing high-stakes, multi-million dollar portfolios, I understand the commercial imperatives that drive digital transformation.

My Mission

This site started as a side project to share insights from the field. Today, it serves as a platform for real-world observations on how to navigate the evolving regulatory landscape of Agentic and Generative AI without stifling innovation. I am committed to helping organizations move beyond the experimental phase of AI by operationalizing compliance through risk classification schemas and technical guardrails.

Beyond this blog, I'm also the founder of Baker Law LLC, a Minnesota-licensed law practice focused on AI governance advisory and commercial contract review for businesses navigating AI adoption.
